InThe Four Agreements, Ruiz uses ancient Toltec wisdom to address beliefs that trap us into making false agreements with the world around us, what he calls the outside dream. These agreements force us to present a false face both to the world and to ourselves. To free ourselves, Ruiz says that we must live by the four Agreements:

• Be Impeccable with your Word.
• Don’t take anything personally.
• Don’t make assumptions.
• Always do your best.

He expands on each of the Agreements and then explains how, together, they lead to freedom.
